If they don't get the water, the Elephant Butte Irrigation District is slated to close down for the season July 5, after slightly more than a month of irrigation. The season typically starts much earlier and ends in September or October. The Las Cruces Sun-News reports there was no response from Santa Fe as of Tuesday.
