Jimmy Alapag - MVP 2011 in Philippine Basketball Association (PBA)

Quoted as the "most explosive point guards" of Talk 'n Text, Jimmy Alapag got this year's (2011) Most Valuable Player (MVP) award in the 36th Season of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA).

Prior to awarding, local fans are also expecting Mark Caguioa on the highest basketball citation. However, according to records, Caguioa only got 956 points while Alapag had a total of 1, 026 points.

Meanwhile, Jimmy received congratulatory messages to his fans in Twitter world. As of 8:00 PM (PH time), Jimmy Alapag is on rank 8 in the top 10 trending topics in Twitter.

Red Hawk Golf Club Set to Soar

A drop dead gorgeous golf course that was developed several years ago north of U.S. Highway 70 and east of Interstate Highway 25 in Las Cruces finally appears to be on the verge of a long awaited opening. Construction of the course was initiated by land developer Philip Philoppou. It was originally going to swapped, when completed, and become the new home of Las Cruces Country Club. Under severe financial pressures, Mr. Philoppou ceased his involvement in the project, and now with just a few weeks to go before the opening date, the handoff/swap to the Las Cruces Country Club appears to be in serious doubt.

The new course, which is set for an early September opening is going to be christened as, "Red Hawk Golf Club." The magnificent layout has been the talk of the golfing community all over the state for several years. Red Hawk was designed by legendary golf course architect Ken Dye. Dye has designed many well-known golf projects both nationally and internationally.

The course features five sets of tees, with yardages ranging from 5,502 to 7,523. There are numerous hazards include 5 lakes (with water coming into play on 8 holes) and 76 bunkers. The layout covers 200 acres including 100 acres of turf, 50 acres of planted native grasses, and 50 acres of natural desert. It is already a haven for wildlife in the surrounding area. Red Hawk is also noteworthy for its links-style features, including rolling hills, generous greens, and a challenging yet spacious design.

The facility will have PGA Master Professional Bill Eschenbrenner serving as Golf Pro Emeritus. Eschenbrenner was named National PGA Golf Professional of the Year in 2005 and was inducted into the National PGA Hall of Fame in 2006.

Alan Salter, Certified Golf Course Superintendent and Red Hawk’s head superintendent, is a member of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America and supervised the grow-in of the Red Hawk golf course from 2007 through 2011. Prior to moving to Las Cruces, Alan was the head superintendent for a decade at Pinon Hills Golf Course in Farmington, New Mexico which is one of the premier public golf courses in the entire nation.

Asi Taulava Punches a Malaysian Player during Jones Cup 2011 (Video)

Asi Taulava's name is currently trending in some of the news and networking sites after he punched a Malaysian player named Kwaan Yoong during the William Jones Cup 2011 international basketball tournament in Taiwan on August 9 2011 (Tuesday).

The incident happened when Yoong accidentally squeezed and grabbed Taulava's private parts in defense of their team.

Asi Taulava, through his Twitter fan page apologized for what happened. As quoted,

"Would like to apologize to everybody that watched the game today for loosing my cool! No excuses for my action an I'm sorry."

Philippine Dragon Boat Team - No Heroes Welcome and Should Resign (Philippine Sports Commission)

After the Philippine Dragon Boat Team grabbed 5 golds and 2 silver in the 2011 World Championships at Tampa Bay, Florida, the team who brought pride in the Philippines will not receive heroes welcome and any monetary rewards from the government, Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) said.

The commission added that the team is not a member of National Sports Association (NSA) and Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) and therefore they will not receive any of these treatments.

Aside from these, reports from TV Patrol also said that some members of PH Dragon Boat team were asked to resign or leave since they are old and just using steroids.

Similar reports mentioned that the funds being spent by the team are coming from private sectors and community contributions from Fil-Am citizens abroad.

Meanwhile, the PH Dragon Boat team will be going back to the country on Friday.

Smart Gilas Pilipinas lose over South Korea in a score of 70-78.

As of this writing, Smart Gilas Pilipinas is currently having their basketball fight with South Korea's basketball team (14 second left in 4th quarter). This is the fifth day of Jones Cup 2011 basketball tournament.

South Korea team still maintained their rank with 5 wins and 0 loss while the Philippine team has 3 - 2 respective summary.

Sports: Locksley to address Twitter policy this week

Sports: Chad Roanhaus calling Clovis home again

From the Clovis News Journal - Chad Roanhaus is back in the Wildcat fold. Roanhaus, who turned 36 in July, has been a head coach at the high school level and college level in Las Vegas, N.M. He went 42-21 in five seasons at Robertson High with three straight Class 3A title appearances and two titles. He resigned from New Mexico Highlands, where he also played quarterback, after compiling a 5-28 record in three seasons. He joins his father, longtime coach Eric Roanhaus, and many of his former coaches and teammates on the Wildcat sidelines as offensive coordinator. It’s his second stint as a Wildcat assistant, as he was a junior varsity coach in 2000. He also played quarterback for the Wildcats and was part of a 1991 state championship and 1993 state runner-up teams. Read more

Carlsbad: Lack of local officials puts games in danger

From the Carlsbad Current-Argus.com - CARLSBAD - With summer winding down, local athletes, coaches and parents can all look forward to school sports seasons starting up. Excuse the local referees, however, if they are not so eager. Mike Thompson, group leader of Carlsbad's basketball officials, expects to lose one to three local referees this season, which would bring the group's size down to 10-12. In the "worst case" scenario of trying to cover the season with only 10 officials, Thompson said approximately 10 lower-level games could be cancelled due to their inability to cover them. Carlsbad is losing referees to work related conflicts, injuries and age. At age 48, Thompson is still one of the youngest local basketball officials and can cite at least seven current injuries he is dealing with - after the offseason. After him there is a big drop off in age down to Michael Barnhart, 27, the only new referee willing to join the crew last year. Even if they do make it through this season without any cancellations the situation won't get any better because the group isn't getting any younger. With the crew's average age reaching into the 50's it is only a matter of time before they see drastic turnover. Thompson can only hope there are new, younger officials to turnover to when that time comes. Read more

First day of football practice "should be a national holiday."

NewsNM - Swickard: There is no day like it, the first day of practice. Congratulation to all of the New Mexico students who go out for sports. From the Alamogordo Daily News - Tularosa football head coach Bryan Jones said he thinks it should be a national holiday. Alamogordo head coach Tommy Standefer said he felt the same way he felt when he was 15 years old. High school football is back as official practice for New Mexico schools began on Monday. For this season, practice began a week earlier and teams now have three weeks of practice before their first game. All other fall sports officially start practice on Aug. 8. Read more

The panel headed by former Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha in a report said that
four teams of the cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL) routed investment from abroad.

Four IPL teams:
1. Mumbai Indians,
2. Rajasthan Royals,
3. Kolkata Knight Riders
4. Kings XI Punjab

have been named for getting foreign investments without necessary approvals that is
mandatory approval from either Reserve Bank of India or other agencies.
All the four IPL teams have got investments routed through tax-havens like Mauritius, Bahamas and British Virgin Islands.

The report says that the finances of IPL were seen and controlled by not only Lalit Modi but BCCI top brass President Shashank Manohar, Secretary Naranswamy Srinivasan, Treasurer MP Pandove as well as the entire Governing Council of IPL.

The report says that income tax department is very soft on BCCI, thus BCCI becomes rich at the expense of the exchequer that is to say we Indian citizens become poor, when BCCI do not pay taxes , government of India becomes more poor,
We are the owners of Government of India, thus we lose the money and we become poor.
Every Indian is owner of Government of India.

BCCI paid no income tax in 2008-09.

In 2009-2010 –
BCCI paid Rs 14.86 crore when gross revenue was earned by BCCI was Rs 661 crore only from IPL.

CNN-IBN reported that the Parliamentary Panel committee has found BCCI has regularly refused to pay taxes. Even this year, they paid On Rs 5 crore out of Rs 160 crore of service tax.

Furthermore the report says that the IPL is mired in tax-evasion, several IPL franchises have funded their teams through Hawala transactions and round-tripping of money from foreign countries.

The report says that the tax exemptions given to the ICC run world cup as unjustified. Sharad Pawar as president of ICC reportedly used his clout to get the tax exemption.

The panel has recommended and demanded that all tax exemptions given to the BCCI be withdrawn and those given specifically for the World Cup be reviewed.

Azkals Versus Kuwait Second Leg Winner July 28, 2011 (Live Streaming)

Update: Kuwait won in 2-1 at the second leg of Kuwait versus Azkals Game 2 of World Cup Qualifier. Aggregate score: 4-1 in favor of Kuwait Al Azraq.

Rain or shine, the second leg of World Cup Qualifier between Philippine Azkals versus Kuwait Al Azraq at Rizal Stadium will be pushed through today, July 28 2011. Winner from this match will advance to the next round. As of FIFA rankings, from rank 159 last June, Azkals is now at the 162nd. Kuwait is on 95th rank.

Azkals lost the first leg of the world cup qualifier over Kuwait in a 3-0 score in favor of Al Azraq.

Azkals Vs Kuwait Second Leg to Push Through Rain or Shine (Watch Live Stream)

2nd Leg Azkals Versus Kuwait

Rain or shine, the second leg of the World Cup qualifier football clash between Philippine Azkals and Kuwait Al Azraq will be pushed through as scheduled, reports said. The second part of Azkals versus Kuwait will be held at Rizal Stadium and will be aired live at Studio 23 and Balls HD, and Channel 167 (SkyCable) on July 28, 2011, 5:30 PM.

As reported by ABS-CBN, the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) said that despite the typhoon, they will continue the game as long as the field is playable. "Only the referee can stop the game", they added.

Azkals football team is on their continuous practice despite heavy rains. Aly Borromeo, Azkals team captain said that they love practicing under the rain.

"We like it like this, it's perfect"

Al Azraq scored 3-0 over Azkals during the first leg of the World Cup Qualifier held last July 23, 2011 at Kuwait.

NBA vs PBA SMART Gilas Full Video Replay

NBA Superstars had a spectacular fight with PBA SMART Gilas in a score of 98-89 in favor of the National Basketball Association team, in the Smart Ultimate All-Star Weekend exhibition game dated July 24, 2011. The occupied seats of Araneta Coliseum were filled with screams and cheers as the national team selection made their very best to win (only 10 points difference).

Among the NBA players who played are Derrick Rose, James Harden, Tyreke Evans, Chris Paul, Javale McGee, Derrick Williams and Kobe Bryant.

As quoted from the ABS-CBN report, Kobe Bryant expressed how they are honored to play with the Philippine team.

"It's been a tremendous honor for all of us to play in front of you wonderful fans"
"I love you, I can't wait until the next time I get back here"

One of the toughest opponents of the Philippine Azkals is the Kuwait Al Azraq football team. According to records, Kuwait team had won different football titles like the 2010 Gulf of Nations Cup and the west Asian Football Federation.

UAAP Season 74 Game Schedule Dates, Venue and Results

The 74th Season of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) themed "All Out, All Heart" opened 4:00 PM today at the Marikina Sports Park. This marks the beginning of the 74th year battle of the most prominent universities in the Philippines.

Among the universities who participated in this years UAAP are UST, UP, UE, Adamson, FEU, and NU.

Here are the UAAP Season 74 scheduled dates and venues, according to similar reports. Meanwhile, the results will be displayed after every end of the game. (Modifications on the scheduled dates and venues may be imposed by the organizers)

Netizens are very excited with the Olympic style opening of the 74th UAAP - University Athletic Association of the Philippines. At about 2:00 o'clock the afternoon, dated July 9, 2011, the words "UAAP Opening" was on top 5 top trending topics in Twitter specifically in the Philippines.

According to reports, there were approximately twelve thousand athletes, fans, organizers and alumni flocked at Marikina Sports Park. 627 of them are representatives from University of Sto. Tomas (UST), 425 from University of the Philippines, 512 athletes from University of the East, 417 from De La Salle University, 300 from Adamson, 300 athletes from FEU and 260 from the National University.
