The terror attack occurred at about 10:30 p.m. Pakistan Time.
The terrorists apparently entered the naval base and hangers through the Pakistan Air Force museum
The high-security area where the attack occurred houses the PAF's Southern Air Command, Air War College and museum as well as PNS Mehran, the main naval air station in Karachi.
Over 10 terrorists stormed a military airbase in this southern port city and killed four naval personnel as they lobbed grenades and fired indiscriminately.
The terrorists lobbed several grenades and exchanged heavy fire with security forces.
Officials of the Citizens Police Liaison Committee confirmed that at least four naval personnel were killed.
Government officials to told to media that Terrorists blew up a PC3 Orion aircraft in the daring attack at Pakistan Air Force's (PAF) Faisal airbase which also houses PNS Mehran, the naval air station.
Security officers told that nearly 15 terrorist are involved in the attack in the highly secured area were believed to be holed up inside the base.
Interior Minister Rehman Malik told that "We have dispatched naval commandos and para-military rangers to the base to tackle the situation
Further he said that the terrorists were still within the airbase and naval commandos and paramilitary Pakistan Rangers were deployed to counter them
Hundreds of paramilitary personnel surrounded the airbase while commandos from the army's elite Special Services Group were sent in to sweep the area.
Ahmed Chennai, head of the Citizens Police Liasion Committee in the city told a television channel that one of the explosions was near the PAF Faisal base museum while the second explosion occurred at the naval airport and hangers inside the Faisal base
The Naval base has helicopters, ammunition and surveillance planes.
US Embassy has declared that no U.S. nationals were killed in the attack.
Pakistan Taliban (TTP) has reportedly said they are responsible for the air force base attack.

After a 12-hour gun battle at naval base Pakistani commandos killed four terrorists and arrested four others.
Four terrorists killed themselves in a blast.
The banned Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan and Baloch separatists claimed the responsibility for the brazen attack on the base by 15-20 gunmen.
Ehsanullah Ehsan told Reuters by telephone from an undisclosed location that
"It was the revenge of martyrdom of Osama bin Laden.
Malik blamed Taliban for the attack.
Reports say 24 explosions were heard at the spot and terrorist burned two patrol planes
