A five-storey hotel in Tuguegarao City, Cagayan was occupied by fire during dawn on December 19, 2010. According to online and TV reports, the hotel named "Bed and Breakfast" was consumed by fire for about four hours. Senior Police Superintendent Mao Aplasca of Cagayan said that the authorities are still finding for the remained bodies of the 15 people who were trapped inside. Police officers and investigators are not yet giving the names and other personal information of the 15 feared dead as they are currently in search operations. However, local fire officials said that the guests of the hotel include fresh graduates of Nursing in University of La Sallete who checked-in in preparation for taking Nursing Licensure examinations.
As reported by Inquirer.net, Police officer Aplasca confirmed that the 12 other injured were already sent to the hospital particularly in People's General Hospital and Cagayan Valley Medical Center and all in good condition.
A mother of one of the trapped students, through an interview with GMANews said that her daughter talked to her through a phone call at around 3:00 a.m. - crying and said that the fire extinguishers are not functioning while the exit doors are locked.
Causes of the hotel fire is still under investigation.
