August 26 2011 is Day of Penance - Archdiocese of Manila

August 26, 2011 will be a "Day of Penance", as declared by the Archdiocese of Manila dated August 16, 2011. This is in response to the "blasphemous" art exhibit presented in the "Kulo" art exhibit in the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) weeks ago.

According to reports, Archbishop Gaudencio Rosales of Manila said that they are encouraging Catholics to sacrifice on that day in penitence to the sins to Jesus Christ brought about by the malicious exhibit.

Quoted from his statements,

"For us Catholics and Christians, the offense goes beyond visual senses; it strikes into our souls"

As part of the "Day of Penance", Catholics are requested to sacrifice just for a day like fasting and praying in forgiveness of the sacrilegious acts made previously in the image of Christ.

Meanwhile, Mideo Cruz already apologized to the public regarding the religious scandal brought about by his Polytheism art.

Mideo Cruz officially gave his apologetic statements regarding his "Polytheism" art photos and collage which was displayed in the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) art exhibit dubbed as 'Kulo' this month. (Read related article)

Mideo through an interview with a GMA 7 said,

"I apologize if I have offended anyone. My artworks are to me, like a carpenter to his hammer, my tools to reexamine our public morals and ideals. In the end, I assume that my audience would exercise their logical decision-making to reject or accept the message or to sway them towards improving society"

"I apologize if I hold a contrary view to others but I honestly believe that providing a space for a different voice is necessary for mature society"

Mideo Cruz, the man behind the controversial art "Poleteismo" in the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) earned negative reactions from Catholic groups this week.

This is after his controversial arts were posted in CCP "Kulo" exhibit which includes a wooden replica of male private parts in front of his face, a crucifix with a hanging and stretched condom, an image of christ with ink tear drops, among others.

University of Sto. Tomas (UST) through Vice Rector Pablo Tiong also criticized the works of Mideo Cruz. Quoted from the statements of Tiong,

"The University as an academic community and as a Catholic institution would also like to express that it is denouncing the sacrilegious or religious offensive art works included in the exhibit and all other artwork of similar nature. Moreover the said sacrilegious or religiously offensive artworks are nothing but a kind of artworks expected and or produced by unprofessional artist"

Karen Flores - CCP Official Resigned during UP Arts Department Forum

Karen Flores, the head of the visual arts department of CCP resigned during the University of the Philippines Arts Department forum dated August 10 2011 (Wednesday), reports said. Her resignation was in connection with the controversial exhibit in the Cultural Center of the Philippines which triggered the temper of Christians and several Catholic groups. Since last week, CCP officials are in hot waters after posting artworks of Mideo Cruz (an artist from UST).

In an interview with DZMM, CCP President Raul Sonico said that they did not put pressure on Ms. Flores' decision. He said that she resigned for her own reasons.

CCP Art Exhibit 'Kulo' Closed Due to Threats

Due to threats being received by the artists and CCP officers, the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) closed the art exhibit "Kulo", Tuesday (August 9, 2011).

The controversial artwork photos and sculpture particularly the "Polytheism" of Medeo Cruz (UST) received negative criticisms from Filipino citizens.

Quoted from the statement of CCP,

"Due to numerous emails, text messages and other letters sent to various offficers of the CCP, and to the artists themselves, with an increasing number of threats to persons and property, the members of the Board of the Cultural Center of the Philippines have decided to close down the Main Gallery where the Kulo Exhibit is on display. This decision was made amidst controversy and deliberation by the Board as to what steps are necessary to avoid future similar incidents. The CCP shall continue to act as catalyst for free expression of Filipino artists. It thanks all those who have, in one way or another, contributed to the dialogue about art, and the different ways it affects society today."

Meanwhile, Medeo Cruz is not yet giving his official statements regarding the issue.

The Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) Art Exhibit entitled "Kulo" is now in hot waters after several Catholic groups said that this is irreligious and blasphemous.

As reported by GMA News, Eric Manalang - President of Pro-life Philippines said,

"By Thursday afternoon, we will file a case if they do not stop the exhibit and if they do not also make amends because stopping is not enough. The damage has been done"

According to local news reports, the controversial art exhibit includes images and statues such as:

1. A wooden replica of male genital in front of Jesus Christ image.
2. An image of Christ wherein his eyes had been darkened by ink.
3. Crucifix with condom.
4. Religious pictures beside women underwear models.
5. Seated Christ statue with red ball on His nose and a semi mickey mouse ears.

Last year in august three schoolgirls entered the shrine to offer Prasad to the Goddess kali an icon of empowerment and Shakti.

The caretaker of the temple in Orissa's Puri district said that "Our fathers did not allow harijans to step inside the temple, and we will also bar their entry.
We will die rather than let it happen."
It is against tradition.

Chandana Bhoi is one of the young girls who visited the Goddess, triggering a vengeful response. "There should be no discrimination.
We can do the same work as the upper-castes," she says. "We pray to the same Gods, so why are we treated so badly?

Ranapada is home to 80 Dalit families who earn their living as sharecroppers. But since the temple controversy last year, they have been given no work. Upper caste leaders from surrounding villages decided to teach them a lesson. Landlords in the area took back the land given for cultivation to the Dalits.

But the board outside the temple proves that there is little political will in undoing the wrongs inflicted here - or in challenging archaic and illegal conventions rooted in the
caste system. A young couple in their wedding finery crouches outside the temple, seeking the Goddess' blessings, forbidden from drawing any closer. Nobody blinks.

After NDTV showed this story Central government of India has asked the Orissa government to provide more information on why this was not stopped.

Again this proves that caste system in India is same like Racism.

International community should wake up and declare it as the racism Indian style.

What government of Orissa should do in this case?

If the board is their the government should declare the Dalit person as the caretaker of the temple for next 100 years.

If Orissa government fails to do so then one should understand that government want to follow the age old bad traditions and customs to win and get the votes and divide the communities on the name of religion and caste.

In its June edition magazine published a 4 page story on Menamparampil titled as A Bishop for Nobel Prize'



The Salesian Archbishop is currently President of the Bishops ' Conference in Northeast India, while also chairs the Committee on Education and Culture, in the Episcopal Conference of India.

He also works on a continental level and in the Federation of Asian Bishops' Conferences (FABC); he leads the Commission for Evangelization. His work is greatly appreciated by all the Bishops of the continent.

Archbishop Menamparampil, who is also a Salesian His peace mission, began in 1996 between Bodo and Santal tribes in Assam.

The temple president, Jayant Mandurkar, said the dress code was same for both

Further he added that they have informed about dress code to the tourism department.

The census will begin in June and cost the exchequer Rs 3,500 crore. The last caste census was carried out in pre-Independent India in 1931.

The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad high court has issued notices to Union external
Affairs ministry, Australian Embassy, Press Council of India and an editor of a national Hindi daily in connection with the photographs of models wearing swimsuits with graffiti of Hindu goddesses, published in a newspaper on May 6

The photographs did not hurt the sentiments of all the Hindus but only because of fear those Hindus whose sentiments did not hurt keep there mouth shuts.
As democracy is only on the paper in reality in India we got the Mobocracy.

The bench in its notice to the Union ministry of external affairs has asked it to take up the issue with its counterpart in Australia.

It has also asked the Australian Embassy to respond on the act which had hurt the sentiments of Hindus.

The court has asked the Press Council of India to explain the guidelines under which media could publish such pictures and take appropriate action if any rule had been violated.

It has asked the editor of the Hindi national daily to explain the circumstances under which such a photograph was published.

The four respondents have been given six weeks time to file their replies.

The Bench of Justice Markandey Katju and Justice Gyan Sudha Mishra has passed a order on the Honour Killings being reported across India.

Supreme Court also said that "There is nothing honorable in honour killing or other atrocities and, in fact, it is nothing but a barbaric and shameful murder."



The bench stated that in recent years `Khap Panchayats’ (known as katta panchayats in Tamil Nadu) which often decree or encourage honour killings or other atrocities in an institutionalized way on boys and girls of different castes and religion, who wish to get married or have been married, or interfere with the personal lives of people.

We are of the opinion that this is wholly illegal and has to be ruthlessly stamped out. "Atrocities with respect to personal lives of people, committed by brutal, feudal minded persons deserve harsh punishment.

Only in this way can we stamp out such acts of barbarism and feudal mentality. Moreover, these acts take the law into their own hands, and amount to kangaroo courts, which are wholly illegal.

Hence, we direct the administrative and police officials to take strong measures to prevent such atrocious acts.

If any such incidents happen, apart from instituting criminal proceedings against those responsible for such atrocities, the State Government is directed to immediately suspend the District Magistrate/Collector and SSP/SPs of the district as well as other officials concerned and chargesheet them and proceed against them departmentally if they do not

(1) Prevent the incident if it has not already occurred but they have knowledge of it in advance or

(2) if it has occurred, they do not promptly apprehend the culprits and others involved and institute criminal proceedings against them, as in our opinion they will be deemed to be directly or indirectly accountable in this connection.

Copy of this judgment shall be sent to all Chief Secretaries, Home Secretaries and Director Generals of Police in all States and Union Territories of India with the direction that it should be circulated to all officers up to the level of District Magistrates and S.S.P./S.P. For strict compliance.

Copy will also be sent to the Registrar Generals/Registrars of all High Courts who will circulate it to all Hon’ble Judges of the Court.

Former TTD board chairman DK Audikesavulu Naidu at a press conference in Chittoor said that

Baba did not like the irregularities taking place in the trust, was taken ill.

Babas caretaker Satyajit in collusion with two others Syamsundar and Dr Iyer, saw to it that Baba suffered.

3.
Satyajit and his men had failed to take care of Baba when he suffered a fracture in the leg two years ago.

4.
They have denied him food since then and kept him on just rice gruel

5.
They administered sleeping pills to Baba without his knowledge.

6.
They have even restricted his accessibility to others.

7.
On March 27 baba had a cardiac arrest, but his caretakers did not respond in time and took him to hospital after much delay. What treatment is being given to him is being kept secret.

Audikesavulu also said that he was treasurer of the Sathya Sai Trust for some period with retired IPS officers HJ Dora and Ramanjaneyulu, and senior bureaucrat Paramahamsa.

When they questioned the trust members about the reported irregularities there was no response.

a medical bulletin issued this morning by the Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences said that "His vital systems including liver are showing minimal response to treatment, which is a cause of worry to the treating doctors He continues to be on ventilator support and his blood pressure continues to show periodic fluctuation which is being corrected by appropriate drugs.

Devotees are fearing that the Satya Sai Trust may declare that he has entered “Sajeeva Samadhi”.
One of TV channel also reported that Trust is planning to declare that the Trust was making plans to announce the “Sajeeva Samadhi” of Satya Sai Baba.

What is Sajeeva Samadhi?
Sajeeva Samadhi means burial while still being alive.

Hospital director AN Safya said Sai Baba continued to be on assisted ventilation to help his lungs and on CRRT (continuous renal replacement therapy) to assist his kidney's functioning
A leading electrophysiology specialist from the US has also joined the team of doctors treating Sai Baba.

Director General of Police Aravind Rao told reporters in Kurnool that Sai Baba's condition was critical.
As Satya Sai Baba health is deteriorated State Government has sent additional police force to Puttaparthi town in Andhra Pradesh
Additional police forces were rushed to Puttaparthi in Anantapur district for deployment in the town, especially around the hospital.

Mahalaxmi temple is situated in Kolhapur city and from more than thousand years females are banned to enter into this temple and offer prayers.

Mahalaxmi temple is considered as one of the six 'Shakti Peeths' of India.


Today Indian females broke that tradition by forcefully entering into the Mahalaxmi temple and offered Prayers.
The women offered prayers to goddess Ambabai.

As per rules females were not allowed to enter into main important area of temple.
In Marathi it’s called as Gabha.
Females were allowed to do or offer prayers from distance only.

The women, led by Nita Kelkar, president of the Bharatiya Janata Party's Mahila Morcha
entered in the temple, and crossed all the limits and tradtions and went inside the temple the important part of Temple where only males were allowed to enter and do offer prayers.

In Year 2000 against this ban a case was registered in High court with still the result is awaited.

A prominent British imam Dr Usama Hasan has been forced to retract his claims that Islam is compatible with Darwin's theory of evolution after receiving death threats from fundamentalists.

"One man came up to me during the lecture and said 'You are an apostate and should be killed'," Dr Hasan told The Independent. "


Who is Dr. Usama Hasan?
Dr Usama Hasan is a physics lecturer at Middlesex University and a fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society.

Masjid Tawhid is a prominent mosque which also runs one of the country's largest sharia courts, the Islamic Sharia Council.
In January, Dr Hasan delivered a lecture there detailing why he felt the theory of evolution and Islam were compatible
But the lecture was interrupted by men he described as "fanatics" who distributed leaflets claiming that "Darwin is blasphemy".

He was intending yesterday to return to Masjid al-Tawhid, a mosque in Leyton, East London, for the first time since he delivered a lecture there entitled "Islam and the theory of evolution".

But according to his sister, police advised him not to attend after becoming concerned for his safety. Instead his father, Suhaib, head of the mosque's committee of trustees, posted a notice on his behalf expressing regret over his comments. "I seek Allah's forgiveness for my mistakes and apologise for any offence caused," the statement read.

But the imam's apology seems to have done little to resolve the matter.
Earlier this week, the group issued a statement saying that Dr Hasan had been dismissed from his position as vice-chairman and imam at the mosque, and describing his views as a "source of antagonism in the Muslim community".
Neither he nor his father were present at the meeting that voted for his dismissal.

Science has no authority, science keeps changing and every one can try to prove or has right to prove that how that scientist is wrong or how his theory is wrong.

Religion – If the head of religion or super natural is insulated or even his saying is challenged that person will get punishment which may result in cutting of hands, burning alive for questioning his super natural. This does not happen in Science, Science keeps changing with every new invention or finding.

To spread the religion it has always stories of Magic.

On YouTube there is a channel of the young British by name of Doug 'QualiaSoup'. Doug one of fighters for common sense and the scientific, logic approach by a life. These videoclips very much like me.

Though many also put the British in one number with militant atheists, videos from QualiaSoup differ a sober explanation of ordinary stereotypes, false logic judgements and science misunderstandings, instead of attack to religion or myths. Doug supposes existence of any opinion and struggles only with blind belief and misunderstanding.

P.S. Doug has received from YouTube the offer on cooperation, but has soon frozen the project and has refused, because the site administration has closed without the prevention such channels, as Cozmikzen and Adamatheatheist.
