Sometime after nightfall on November 1, 1950, under the cover of a dark sky, a firefight erupted north of the town of Unsan, in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. Unsan also lies north of the 38th parallel and was enemy territory for the U.S. 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division, which had taken up position there just days before.
