Flash in iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch backed using Skyfire 2.0 Web Browser Application

After long time of waiting for Flash in iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, Skyfire 2.0, an application that enables iPhones and iPads users to view flash videos was approved by Apple App Store for distribution. CNN Technology News reported that Skyfire 2.0 was the first application approved by Apple Company to do such feature.

Apparently, Skyfire 2.0 came up to an innovative solution in order to follow the restrictions of above-mentioned Apple products. Flash video will be played after the user encountered or clicked a page with flash videos, this will then be converted to HTML5 which is standard in iOS. After convertion, a small thumbnail will appear giving an option to the user to view the flash video. Skyfire 2.0 for iOS works on top of Apple’s Safari web browser. Aside from this major feature, Skyfire company also showed other features such as exploring the related content on the page you are browsing, social sharing with Facebook and Twitter, private browsing, user agent switching and multi-tab browsing of up to 8 pages are also capable through this application.

In May 2008, Skyfire was also debuted to Nokia and Windows Mobile and surpassed the overall 3 million downloads. The first released was criticized for its slowness and privacy concerns but in the 2.0 version of Skyfire, the errors has been fixed.

The video below posted in Skyfire official website shows its demo features for iPhone.

After 5 hours of successful release, Skyfire 2.0 was declared by Skyfire company as “Sold Out”. In the statements by Oberhofer written in Skyfire website, he said:

Skyfire for iPhone has been received with unbelievable enthusiasm. Despite our best attempts and predictions, the demand far exceeds our initial projections.
The user experience was performing well for the first few hours, but as the surge continued, the peak load on our servers and bandwidth caused the video experience to degrade.
Thus we are effectively ‘sold out’ and will temporarily not accept new purchases from the App Store. We are working really hard to increase capacity and will be accepting new purchases from the App Store as soon as we can support it.
We are very grateful for the demand. Within 5 hours, Skyfire for iPhone became the top grossing app, the third highest paid app overall and the top application in the Utilities category. Wow!
Please bear with us as we bring our capacity in line with the incredible demand – stay tuned.
