New Indian Rupee currency symbol:

Mr. D Uday kumar Post Graduate from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) designed a new Indian rupee currency symbol. He won the competition of currency symbol competition. About 3000 people participated in this competition.  This new symbol is a mix of Devanagri 'Ra' and Roman 'R'. This new symbol is approved by union cabinet. This symbol will be printed on Indian currency notes and coins too. Government will try to adopt this new symbol within six months period in the country. Now rupee will become the fifth currency in the world to have its own distinct symbol after the Indian federal cabinet approved the sign on Jyly 15, 2010. I would like to convey my congratulations to mr. D uday kumar on his success. 2.5 lakh rupees award will be given to him.
